The Clipper was invented in 1970 by the designer Enric Sardà at the request of the Barcelona-based company Flamagás. For this first creation, Sardà was in charge of both the mechanical part, i.e. devising the lighter's operating system, and its design, choosing plastic for its manufacture.
A year later, in 1971, Flamagás launched the first Clipper lighters in history and from that moment on they became a sales success. Success that has continued to this day, being the Clipper lighter the leader in sales worldwide.
